| Orillia
goes on the defensive. |
 |
 |
| Cadets
and Adults from the Orillia Brigade went to the local YMCA to get a basic instruction on
how to defend themselves in case of an attack. Mike from the Orillia OPP Detachment
instructed the participants on different moves which included blocking, punching, kicking
and pain points and other defensive moves. After the 2 hour lesson a Basketball game broke
out with Team Orillia taking on Team Central Area. Of course Team Central Area won the
game 13 - 9. The cadets had lots of fun and have expressed interest on taking more
in-depth lessons to obtain their proficiency badge on self defense, and recommend other
Divisions to do the same. |

Central Area Winter
Camp
February 19 through 21, 1999 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Behold, the Area Winter camp that Central Area had at the Tiffin Centre
just outside Barrie during the weekend of February 19-21. Activities included snow tubing
at Snow Valley Ski Resort, scavenger hunt, flag making, predator/prey game and a awesome
dance inside the Centre's main lodge. The weekend was attended by 80 Cadets and 25
Officers. All cadets were encouraged to sleep in arctic tents that were provided for them
on Saturday night. Even though the temperature went down to -18C, about 50 of the 80
cadets stayed in the tents the whole night with 4 officers as well sleeping in tents the
night. The crusaders tapped about 50 maple trees for the Tiffin Centre on Sunday late
morning. This was to help the Centre in its maple syrup festival at the end of March. The
weather was warm enough during the day that the sap was already running. |

 |
| The following divisions were represented at the winter camp: Barrie,
Orillia, New Tecumseth, Newmarket, Oshawa, Ajax/Pickering, Kirkfield (New Section of
Fenlon Falls). Joining them were: the Provincial Cadet Officer, the Area Commisioner
and our Area Cadet Officer. |
